Update: I have now done three transactions using Sean as my agent: a purchase of a condo in 2011, then the sale of that condo and purchase of another condo in 2015. I've retained my previous review below, and all of my previous comments still apply, but I'd also like to add a few further
observations.
Sean's knowledge of the Somerville/Cambridge market, its quirks, and its players is encyclopedic. Nothing catches him off guard, and there is no question you can throw at him that he won't be able to answer, or sticky situation he can't resolve. Sean had occasion to display this skill frequently with both of my recent transactions, which involved other parties who were, to put it charitably, "difficult." There were a number of occasions where the other parties seemed to be doing their darnedest to sabotage the transaction, but Sean and his team (in addition to being a pro himself, Sean works with ace associates) were able to navigate the minefields and reach the desired outcome. That leads me to another of Sean's key qualities, his tenacity in pursuing his clients' wishes. The trick is, Sean takes care of business in such a low-key way that you scarcely even notice when he moves heaven and earth for you, which is great because it helps make the whole process seem far less stressful and pressured than it otherwise would. Lastly, although this is definitely an "intangible," Sean is not only is fantastic at his job, he's also a blast to do business with-- real estate hunting and selling is not an activity I'd ever call "fun," but Sean has the magical talent of making it so.
In the end, Sean got me a hefty profit on the sale of my old place, and helped me land the new place of my dreams. I'm kind of sad that I don't expect to have occasion to do business with him again in the foreseeable future, but in a way that's just another testament to his ability to get his clients exactly what they want. Sean is a walking example of "a brand you can trust," and I couldn't recommend any service provider of any kind more highly.
